Lab Details - Rebuilding and Refining the Gait Cycle with Mariska
Â
Walking is one of the most fundamental human movement patterns – yet it’s also one of the most complex. For clients living with neurological conditions, chronic pain, balance challenges, or long‑standing compensations, gait can become a puzzle of missing pieces, overworked systems, and inefficient strategies. In this lab, Mariska will guide you through a powerful, brain‑based approach to rebuilding the gait cycle from the ground up.
This is not a “fix the foot” or “strengthen the glutes” workshop. Instead, you’ll explore how the brain and body organizes walking, why certain gait patterns emerge, and how to influence them through targeted sensory input, strategic loading, and neuro‑informed cueing. You’ll experience these concepts in your own body first – because once you feel the difference, you’ll understand exactly how to create it for your clients.
Throughout the day, you’ll experience some of our favorite exercises, coupled with Neuro Studio specific tips to maximize your clients gait cycles. Â
By the end of the lab, you’ll walk away with a list of new exercises and a more confident framework for helping clients move with greater ease and efficiency – whether they’re living with a neurological condition or simply trying to walk without pain.
You will also:
- Feel how small shifts in sensory input can dramatically change your own gait
- Learn strategies that improve step length, weight‑shifting, and push‑off without forcing mechanics
- Discover why certain compensations persist, and how to unwind them safely
- Build confidence in assessing gait patterns and choosing the right intervention for each client
- Walk away with practical tools you can apply immediately in your sessions
